The Danger of AI | Scary Technology | Artificial Intelligence | Documentary
Stephen Hawking has observed, “The rise of powerful AI will be either the best, or the worst thing, ever to happen to humanity. We do not yet know which.” I think this put a responsibility on our shoulders for which we are badly equipped. As Nick Bostrom, philosopher and author of the book Superintelligence, has observed, “All these things [we have invented], whether it’s jet planes or art or political systems, have come into the world through the birth canal of the human brain. If you could change that channel, creating artificial brains, then you would change the thing that is changing the world.”AI control problem”, we would have hit the jackpot. If we don’t solve it – and we will have only one shot at it – it could be the end of humanity. I believe that we are at a point at which the perceived advantages and disadvantages of AI create an optical illusion that makes the risks of AI look much smaller than the benefits. Artificial intelligence looks less dangerous than it is. It is as if we first need a covid-19-like calamity, before we notice this problem.Bill Gates has said that AI will simply allow us to dramatically increase productivity in almost every field of life. “AI is just the latest in technologies that allow us to produce a lot more goods and services with less labor”, he has said. “And overwhelmingly, over the last several hundred years, that has been great for society.”Elon Musk tweeted in 2014 that “We need to be super careful with AI. Potentially more dangerous than nukes.” In fact, he has said that “With artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon.” In another interview, he stated that “If there is a superintelligence who’s utility function is something that’s detrimental to humanity, then it will have a very bad effect. It could be something like getting rid Musk has pointed out: “I’m not against the advancement of AI – I want to be really clear about this. But I do think that we should be extremely careful.” He has said that he is close to the cutting edge in AI and it scares the hell out of him. “It’s capable of vastly more than almost anyone knows and the rate of improvement is exponential. […] We have to figure out some way to ensure that the advent of digital super intelligence is one which is symbiotic with humanity. I think that is the single biggest existential crisis that we face and the most pressing one.”of spam email. Well the best way to get rid of spam is to get rid of… humans.”
Bill Gates has expressed similar worries. “I am in the camp that is concerned about super intelligence”, he said in 2015. “First the machines will do a lot of jobs for us and not be super intelligent. That should be positive if we manage it well. A few decades after that though the intelligence is strong enough to be a concern. I agree with Elon Musk and some others on this and don’t understand why some people are not concerned.”

Why artificial intelligence is far more dangerous than we think.
