What is the first image that comes to your mind when you think of the word meditation? If you’re like most, you’re probably thinking about a monk sitting silently with his eyes closed in a remote temple chanting “Ommmmm” for hours on end in search of enlightenment. Unfortunately, misinformation like this has discouraged or completely turned off many people from practicing the benefits of meditation regularly. Afterall, who could blame them? In this fast-paced era dominated by technology and social media, who has time to sit like a monk for hours to feel some stress relief? (Not me). 

There’s a lot of information out there about meditation, which ironically, creates a lot of misunderstanding and confusion about it as well. So rather than approaching meditation from a traditionally spiritual angle, let’s talk about it scientifically. 

No matter what you’ve previously heard or believed about meditation, MEDITATION IS SCIENCE! To understand this fully, we need to take a look at the brain.
