Causes of Lower Left Abdominal Pain

Common Causes:
Gas and bloating: This is a common cause of mild, cramping pain in the lower abdomen.
Constipation: Difficulty passing stool can lead to abdominal pain, particularly in the lower left quadrant.
Menstrual cramps: Pain in the lower abdomen, often accompanied by back pain and other symptoms, is common during menstruation.
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS): This chronic condition can cause abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation.
More Serious Causes:
Diverticulitis: This is an inflammation of small pouches (diverticula) that can form in the colon wall. It can cause severe pain, fever, and changes in bowel habits.

Kidney stones: While pain from kidney stones is typically felt in the back or side, it can sometimes radiate to the lower abdomen.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD): Conditions like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis can cause chronic inflammation in the digestive tract, leading to abdominal pain.

Ovarian cysts or torsion: These conditions can cause pain in the lower abdomen, especially in women.
Hernia: A weakness in the abdominal wall can allow tissue to bulge through, causing pain and discomfort.
Appendicitis: While typically associated with pain in the right lower abdomen, appendicitis can sometimes present with pain in the left lower abdomen.
When to Seek Medical Attention:
If you experience severe or persistent lower left abdominal pain, especially if accompanied by other symptoms like fever, vomiting, or bloody stool, it’s important to seek medical attention promptly. A healthcare professional can diagnose the underlying cause and recommend appropriate treatment
