How Gemstone Round Beads Are Made

How Gemstone Round Beads Are Made

On our trip to China in May 2019, we were invited to a factory where they showed us the many steps it takes to cut a gemstone into a round bead. We found it super fascinating and hope you enjoy this little glimpse into how your beads are made!

I was wondering about this process must be like today with a friend, who then found this video. Thanks for creating it. How are the tumbled, polished beads separated from the polishing materials and placed into the molds ready for drilling? Is the stringing a manual or machine-driven process?

Thanks so much for sharing this video! I learned so much and have a greater appreciation for my beads. Knowing that someone have to mine and do the heavy lifting to bring it to the factory. And all steps it takes in between to get a bead. So cool ! Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the information. What about the 2mm round beads (very very small), these look like 10mm, or the faceted ones, or the other shapes (oval, square….). Please inform us.

Thank you so much for sharing your trip to a Chinese bead-making factory so we can visually see the process and understand better the actual value of the beads that we select and use in our designs. I often tell my jewelry-making students that just because some beads originate from China does not mean they are bad or inferior, in fact, quite the opposite in many cases. There are valid concerns with metals and their differences in safety requirements with chemicals processing for components, but beads are quite amazing from all around the world. Sparkle on!
