The 10,000-Calorie Diet: This is What Sumo Wrestlers Eat

Sumo wrestlers are known for their impressive size and strength, which is largely attributed to their unique diet.

A staple food for sumo wrestlers is a stew called “chanko nabe.” This hearty stew is typically made with a variety of meats, vegetables, and tofu, all cooked in a flavorful broth. In addition to chanko nabe, sumo wrestlers also consume large quantities of rice and other high-calorie foods. They often eat multiple times per day, sometimes consuming up to 10,000 calories in a single day. This high-calorie diet, combined with intense physical training, helps sumo wrestlers maintain their massive size and strength.

It’s important to note that this type of diet is not recommended for most people, as it is extremely high in calories and fat. However, it is essential for sumo wrestlers to maintain their weight and strength for competition.
