Persistent crying or irritability: Crying is a baby’s way of communicating, but inconsolable crying that doesn’t improve with soothing or feeding could be a sign of illness or discomfort.
Listlessness or lethargy: If your baby seems unusually sluggish, drowsy, or sleeps for extended periods, it could be a cause for concern.
Poor feeding: If your baby is not feeding well or seems to have difficulty sucking, it might be a sign of illness or mouth problems.
Vomiting or diarrhea: Excessive vomiting or diarrhea can quickly lead to dehydration in babies.
Breathing problems: Rapid breathing (over 60 breaths per minute), wheezing, or grunting sounds while breathing could indicate respiratory problems.
Urinary problems: Not urinating within the first 24 hours after birth or not having a bowel movement for 48 hours could be signs of dehydration or other issues.
Umbilical cord problems: If the umbilical cord is red, swollen, or bleeding, see a doctor right away.
Soft spot (fontanel) bulging: The soft spot on your baby’s head (fontanel) may bulge slightly, but if it’s very tense or bulging significantly, consult a doctor.
Seizures: Convulsions or uncontrolled jerking movements require immediate medical attention.
If you notice any of these warning signs in your baby, don’t hesitate to call your pediatrician or seek immediate medical attention. Early diagnosis and treatment can make a big difference in your baby’s health.
