CDC warns of rising walking pneumonia cases

The CDC has issued a warning about a recent increase in cases of walking pneumonia, specifically caused by the bacteria Mycoplasma pneumoniae. This bacteria can cause a variety of respiratory illnesses, including pneumonia.

Here’s what you need to know:
Symptoms: Symptoms can be mild and include cough, fever, headache, and fatigue. In some cases, it can lead to more severe pneumonia with chest pain and difficulty breathing.

Contagiousness: It’s highly contagious and spreads through respiratory droplets, similar to the common cold or flu.
Risk Groups: Children and young adults are particularly susceptible.
Prevention: Good hygiene practices, like frequent handwashing, can help prevent the spread.
If you experience symptoms, it’s important to consult a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Antibiotics are often prescribed for walking pneumonia.
