How to Calm Down An Overly Excited Dog

Ignore them. This may seem counterintuitive, but if you give your dog attention when they are excited, it will only encourage them to continue that behavior. Instead, turn your back on them, cross your arms, and avoid making eye contact. Once they have calmed down a bit, you can give them some attention.
Give them a calming scent. Some dogs find certain scents to be calming, such as lavender, vanilla, or chamomile. You can try using a diffuser with one of these scents, or spraying it on your dog’s bedding or crate.
Take them for a walk. Exercise is a great way to help your dog burn off excess energy and calm down. If they are too excited to go for a walk, try taking them to a quiet area where they can run around and play.
Give them a puzzle toy. Puzzle toys are a great way to keep your dog mentally stimulated and engaged. This can help them to relax and calm down.
Teach them a calming command. You can teach your dog a command such as “settle” or “relax.” When they are calm, give them a treat and praise them. Over time, they will learn to associate this command with being calm.
